



The Classic Grand Tour
TOUR ITINERARY DETAILS:
Day 1: Arrival in UB
Our tour guide will pick you up from airport and take you to your hotel, then present you the detailed program of our entire trip. Upon your arrival we will visit Gandantegchinleng Monastery, the first temple was built in 1835 and was center of Buddhist learnings in Mongolia. Then climb up to Zaisan Memorial Hill beneath the Bogd Khan Mountain, where you can see entire panaromic view of Ulaanbaatar city. The Buddha park is just next to the Zaisan and you will see a huge statue of Buddha reaching 23 meters in height. Our next stop will be a Museum of Bogd Khan Palace which was the residence of the last emperor - blade of Mongolia. The museum contains a rich collection of the King & Queen’s unique items used in their daily life, a gifts received from foreign dignitaries and many more interesting exhibits.
In the evening, dinner at Mongolian Barbeque!
Day 2: Baga Gazriin Chuluu
After breakfast, we pack our cars and start our journey southwards. Our first destination is Baga Gazriin Chuluu. Literally translated "little rock place", the area features impressive rock formations, valleys and the hidden ruins of a Buddhist temple. After a day of exploring the area, we spend our first night in a Mongolian Gher camp.
​Day 3: Tsagaan Suvraga
Today the trip takes us back on asphalt roads for a while, until we break off the road towards Tsagaan Suvraga. These cliffs are a colorful sight and make for some beautiful hiking. Once on top, the view over Middle Gobi is breathtaking. We will be able to see the mountain range of Gobi Gurvan Saikhan in the distance, which will be our destination for tomorrow.
Day 4: Yolin Am
Yolin Am, or vulture valley, is the most famous gorge in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan mountain range. Apart from vulture nests, we will see countless small animals living in the valley. The stream cutting through the mountain usually stays frozen even late in summer, so watch your step. We reach Yolin Am around noon and after a day of hiking spend our night in a nearby Gher camp.

Day 5: Khongorin Els
To reach Khongorin Els, we are driving over rough terrain for a while. The reward is Khongorin Els, a single sand dune stretching over 100km in length and 200m in height. We will ride camels into the sandy landscape and in the evening scale the highest point of the dune to enjoy the sunset. Once the sun is gone, we spend our night at our Gher camp and take in the night sky.
Day 6: Ongiin Khiid
Today we are driving a bit longer, leaving Gobi and reaching the central provinces shortly after mid-day. Our destination is Ongii, formerly a center of Mongolian Bhuddism that was destroyed during the mid 20th century and now, as a ruin, serves as both a museum and reminder of that time. The ruins and our camp are nestled in a beautiful valley next to a meandering river. Take the opportunity to explore the surrounding area on your own or just relax by the riverbank. It's all in walking distance here.

Day 7: Orkhon Valley
The Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO world heritage site, is a beautiful extended valley in central Mongolia. The Orkhon river, the longest river in Mongolia, allows for beautiful hikes along the riverbanks from or to the largest waterfall along its path, the 20m high Ulaan Tsutgalan.

Day 8: Tuvkhun Monastery & Karakorum City
Our first stop of the day is Tuvkhun, which is located in a fascinating mountainous area of forest steppe in Khangain Nuruu National Park. Take your small travel bag with you and we will start hiking to Shiveet Hill upslope, towards the top of the mountain for about an hour. There we will find recently restored Buddhist monastery of Tuvkhun. A bit of climbing is required to reach the top. After returning back downhill, we continue to the ruins of Karakorum city, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire. After visiting the actual site, we will explore the modern Karakorum museum which exhibits many artefacts of the Mongol Empire era, as well as information on Mongolian history and everyday life in Karakorum.

Day 9: Tsenkher Hot Spring
In the morning we will drive to the Tsetserleg town, capital of Arkhangai province and visit Zay Gegeen Temple- Museum dated back to 1750s. Then continue our journey to Taikhar rock inscription where you find many kinds of scripts dated III-XVIII centuries such as Turkic, old Mongolian, Chinese character, Tibetan and modern Mongolian cyrillics. After lunch off to “Tsekher”, a natural hot spring flows out year-round from ground at 85 Celsius degree and it has a high mineral content which composed of calcium, sodium and sulphuric etc. Hot spring shower and hot spring bath will be waiting for you to relax and chill.
Overnight, stay at ger tourist camp
Day 10: Terkh Lake
Upon reaching Terkh national park area, we will hike up to "Khorgo" extinct volcano, surrounded by crates and trees. There is a small pond in center of the volcano, when hiking into the mountains you will see ground cave with year-round ice, the stone shelters formed by explosions of lava. After lunch, walk by the beach of the lake and wander around the area while horseback riding before spending the evening with a beer on the lake shore.

Day 11: Murun
After 10 days of countryside we reach Murun, the provincial capital of Khuvsgul province. Here we will restock our provisions and take the chance to observe everyday life in a Mongolian countryside "city". After lunch, we continue towards our camp for the night.

Day 12: Khuvsgul Lake
Not the largest, but definitely the most famous lake of Mongolia, Khuvsgul lake is also known as the "Blue Pearl of the North". Famous for its crystal clear water which at times takes a sapphire blue color, lake Khuvsgul offers breathtaking views of the mountains around it, as well as beautiful hiking and relaxation opportunities on the lake's shore.

Day13: Uran Togoo
​The Uran Togoo is one of several extinct volcanoes in the Uran Togoo Tulga Uul Natural Monument area. Shaped like a almost perfect cone, the Uran Togoo is named after the Mongolian word for the fireplace, which features heavily in Mongolian culture. We will scale the crater and spend the day hiking on and around the mountain.

Day 14: Amarbayasgalan Monastery
Several hours north of Ulaanbaatar and deep inside the Selenge River Valley we find the Amarbaysgalant monastery. This formerly largest Monastery in Mongolia had suffered extensive destruction but was reconstructed in parts with significant attention to detail. The monastery is still active and monks live and worship here, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. We spend our final day in the Mongolian countryside and our last night in a gher camp.

Day 15: Return to Ulaanbaatar
We begin our journey back to UB. Along the way, we will stop for lunch. We should reach UB in the early afternoon, depending on traffic and road conditions. We check back into the hotel and enjoy the comforts of civilization. After some time to acclimatize, we join once more to enjoy a performance of traditional mongolian song and dance before dinner.

Day 16: City Tour - Half day and rest of the time is for you to chill out in UB
​While Mongolia is famous for its countryside, many people overlook the treasures hidden in its capital city. Our city tour will cover the main sights, from Sukhbaatar square, National Museum and Gandan temple to the soviet era Zaisan Hill Monument. The second half of the day is free for you, to chill in UB, check out one or two coffee shops and just see Mongolian people of all ages go about their day.
