currencies

Which currencies can i pay in?

Our prices are usually in USD, and we accept transfer in USD. We also accept transfer in EUR. If you need to pay in a different currency just let us know.

spending money

How much money do i need on the trip?

In Ulaanbaatar, you'll have to take care of yourself. Excluding souvenirs, about USD50 per day per person should suffice. In countryside you only have to pay for snacks, drinks other than water (we provide approx. 2lt per day per person), alcohol, souvenirs and tips.

Clothing

what should i wear?

Depending on when you come and where you go, prepare for:

Hot days and cold nights, rain, strong sunshine, wind, dry air and hiking. Long sleeve shirts and a scarf/neckerchief help protect against the wind and sun, solid shoes help with the soil and a raincoat should always be in reach.

Drives

How are the drives?

Even in the most comfortable car, the ride gets bumpy. Countryside roads are just like that. We will take regular breaks to go to the toilet or just enjoy nature and stretch our legs. When driving overland, the landscape changes slowly and the breathtaking nature will let the time fly by mostly.

camps

How are the camps?

The standard camps we usually book are of good quality. Each Ger accommodates up to 4 people, though usually it is 2 people per Ger. Beds are clean, and towels are provided. Camps have shared shower and sanitary facilities and a restaurant for the meals. Gers in the south are usually not heated, Gers in central and north have a coal/wood-fired stove in the center.

Food

How is the food?

Mongolian cuisine is quite heavy since you do need a lot of energy when outside all day. However, the camps we book usually provide a wide range of food options that cater to western tastes as well.

veg/vegan

How about vegetarianS / veganS ?

Vegetarian food is not an issue, all our camps provide vegetarian meals if we notify them in advance. Vegan food is rare even in Ulaanbaatar, so let us know beforehand and we will see what we can arrange together with the camps.

safety

Is travelling in Mongolia safe?

Yes, very. While UB does have its share of pickpockets, violent crime is rare. The countryside is very safe, especially since you'll be travelling with a guide and a driver. The crime rate in Mongolia is low, but that doesn't mean that there is no crime.

electricity

What about electricity?

Ger camps usually have either a power line or a generator. Power lines provide 24/7 electricity, generators usually run only part of the day. Depending on the camp, there may not be sockets in the Gers but only in the restaurant. Charging your camera or phone is usually not a problem.

internet

What about internet?

We can get you a tourist SIM card with data. You usually run into connectivity at least once a day, though there are tours where you may be off-grid for more than a full day. Connectivity in Ulaanbaatar is very good.
